Angel of Retribution

By Anthea Cohen

After the sudden death of her husband, Bill, Agnes feels compelled to sell their beautiful home and start afresh.

Rose Cottage in Sussex seems the perfect place to settle, and Agnes is content with her garden, her West Highland terrier, Mac, and the growing number of chickens she has rescued from a nearby battery. But village life being what it is, she is also a little bored.

Relief comes in the shape of Amanda, a nervous girl who lives in the strange and dilapidated house in the same lane as Rose Cottage. Prone to outbursts of hysteria, Amanda is convinced that she stabbed to death the man who slashed and killed her beloved horse, Magic. Unable to find a body, the police concluded that the man had simply run away, but Agnes feels Amanda might be telling the truth and the continued spate of horse slashings in the district fuels her eagerness to investigate. Had there been more than one man?

Aided by Amanda and her brother, Guy, Agnes uncovers a vipers nest of jealousy, deceit and most loathsome to her, animal cruelty.

Catching the wrong-doers tests Agnes’s ingenuity to the hilt but, as always, Agnes never fails to dispense her own peculiarly original form of justice…
