A Knight of Spain

By Marjorie Bowen

On a midsummer day, the storm clouds form over Alcalà as three young princes decide who will earn the attentions of the beautiful Doña Aña de Santofimia…

While Don Carlos, the son of the King of Spain, wins the chance, it is the King’s illegitimate brother – Don Juan – who wins the lady’s heart. But ambition, religious wars and the machinations of the royal family divide the young lovers.

Don Juan must take his own fate in hand to protect those he loves, and Spain itself, amid the deep divisions that threaten to destroy it all…

Based on the life of Don Juan of Austria, A Knight of Spain is an engaging historical novel of romance and intrigue.

Marjorie Bowen often wrote under the pseudonym Margaret Gabrielle Vere Campbell Long, and was one of Britain’s most prolific authors of the twentieth century. Between 1906 and her death in 1952, Bowen wrote over 150 books, garnering much acclaim for her popular histories and historical and Gothic romances. Alongside masterful descriptions and concise, efficient prose, she deftly rendered larger-than-life subjects in the minds of her readers. Her other titles include The Sword Decided, Mary Queen of Scots, The Queen’s Caprice, The Governor of England, Mistress Nell Gwynn and Dickon.
