Rome is under threat – from without and within.

In the years 65-61 BC, plans are afoot for a surprise attack on Rome itself.

The closing stages of the Third Mithradatic War in Pontus sees Pompey Magnus trying to capture Mithradates and his new Amazon Queen, Hypsicratea (Sicra). After a night-time battle Mithradates suffers a comprehensive defeat and flees across the Caucasus Mountains. From here he hatches his incredible plan to march on Rome.

Petro, a former Roman soldier, who almost died in the hands of Sicra, is captured by the King as he flees from the battles between the renegade Milo and the unscrupulous patrician Publius Claudius (Clodius) in their bid for power.

How will Petro react when he comes face to face with his Amazonian nemesis? Can Petro’s Snake Eye charm bring about an unlikely union of Roman and barbarian? And what will happen when an old enemy, who believes he is dead, finds that he still lives?

Nick Swyft has been writing for over twenty years, mainly for his own pleasure and that of friends. Having won a number of prizes for his short stories, he decided to write a novel for a wider audience. The Lost Legion (since re-titled: Where Gods were Born) was the first book in his Lost Legionary trilogy. Where Gods Die, which follows events to a shattering conclusion, is the second.
