The Diana Jigsaw

On 31 August 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, died as a result of a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris, France. But over twenty years on, do we really know how it happened?

John Douglas Bryant sets out to disprove the popular conspiracy theories; discover exactly what had happened on that final journey from the Ritz Hotel to the Alma Tunnel; expose who was responsible for the fatal crash; examine the driver’s blood tests; establish any secret services conspiracy and establish the extent of any cover-up. There were also a few loose ends to tie up, such as the suspicious death of French photographer, James Andanson, who was supposedly driving the mythical white Fiat Uno.

The conclusions reached are based on a holistic view of the evidence as it was presented to the French inquiry, Operation Paget and the British inquest, as well as patient collection and collation of articles and interviews. Some conclusions will come as no surprise to the reader. Others will be shocking.

The resulting half-second by half-second animation, which took more than two years to complete, could not be included in the book, so John constructed a website that contains all the evidence, diagrams, chain of custody spreadsheets, photographs and, of course, the animation. The website is only accessible to readers of the book.

John Douglas Bryant was born in South London and started his first band, The Shifters, before leaving school. He was signed to Polydor as a solo recording artist in the late sixties and was the first non-US finalist in the American Song Festival. He left the music industry after the advent of punk and set up a design and advertising consultancy before becoming the founding editor of Satellite Times, the UK’s first satellite TV listings magazine. He is an award-winning designer, continues to compose, and has written screenplays and co-written a series of ten books for children.
