Manchester United.

But where did it all start?

On November 20th, 1880, a team from the carriage and wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway played its first recorded match – and lost 6-0 to a reserve side from Bolton Wanders. 

It was the team that was to become world-beaters. 

Known as Newton Heath when they were formed by the railway company staff, they became Manchester United in 1902 after the club ran out of money and had to be rescued by a group of local businessman. 

By 1908, the newly re-named team had already won the Football League – the first of many triumphs.
