Edward VII: The Prince of Wales and the Women He Loved
By Catharine Arnold
The Prince of Wales, Edward, son of Queen Victoria was a lifelong womanizer and seducer. Better known as ‘Bertie’, he had countless affairs against the backdrop of Victorian London high society.
The women in his life ranged from the Countess of Warwick, an extravagant socialite and member of the Labour Party, Lillie Langtry, a simple girl from Jersey who would become an actress, and the French bisexual Sarah Bernhardt, a woman of decadence. Bertie even liased with Jennie Churchill, the mother of a certain prime minister.
These affairs were scandalous for the monarchy, leading to suicides and divorce. But Edward himself would go on to become a modern King who transformed the monarchy into the modern institution that we know today.
Edward VII: The Prince of Wales and the women he loved is the story of an extraordinary King, and the fascinating women he surrounded himself with.
