An Affair to Remember
By Virginia Budd
At the age of thirty-two, Beatrice is fed up of being the archetypal ‘Other Woman’, with nothing to show for herself but a room in a friend’s flat, and the ability to be a glorified nursery maid to her boss. On the spur of the moment she decides to apply for a secretarial job at ‘The Lady’, and before she knows it she has left the bright lights of London for a sleepy Suffolk village. Once she arrives she meets Sam Mallory, an ex-army major who is trapped in an unhappy marriage.
They find themselves strangely drawn together, and a mysterious force which they can’t explain makes them believe they have met each other before. They both start to hear voices and experience flashbacks to a bygone era. What is pulling them together? And why is the past encroaching on the present? As the tragic history of the village starts to come to light, Beatrice finds herself caught up in a dramatic romance tainted by the story of a pair of lovers who lived over a thousand years before.
