When I began writing my Linked Series of psychological thrillers, I decided they should link together in unusual ways. Gilda is the focus of my third book, Dangerous Revelations. As the title suggests, her revelations invite danger as she strives to publish damaging information about the Mafia and personal events endangering her own life and that of her biographer, Frances.
She initially appeared in There Are No Accidents (Book 1) and was referenced in, The Judas Tree (Book 2). Her impact on evolving events became too important for me to ignore… she deserved a book of her own.
Gilda’s story began in Amsterdam and traversed America, Italy and Switzerland. She grew up learning the gold trade, which would become a symbol of her life… her name meaning ‘golden child’. She lived by her wits and intelligence and accepted the choices that shaped her life.
As Gilda’s story unfolded, I became aware that her character kept on giving. She grew in substance, driven by a strong work ethic and the will to survive. She was a loyal friend, daughter, lover and wife. But there was a passion in Gilda for closure… a reckoning to right the wrongs and a desire for revenge. Her intriguing life is revealed in a series of flashbacks. Her memories portray a life enriched by love and devastated by loss and pain, but with the courage to overcome adversity.
It is the story of her mental and physical survival and the methods she applied to stay alive. I include accounts of domestic abuse in my thrillers, to create awareness of this insidious practice. In Dangerous Revelations, Gilda suffers a horrific abusive attack, which is based on a true event. I heard a woman telling this story on BBC Radio 4, some years ago. It touched me so deeply that I cried. I wanted to include this true event to bear witness to this brave woman.
I always set a teaser or two near the end of my thrillers. Hopefully, the twists and turns of the story will capture your imagination and your desire to know what happens next. The Linked Series will continue… in unusual ways.
