Blackthorn Child

By Nora Fountain

Henry, Lord Downham and Marie-Isabel have everything except a son.

With their second child imminent Marie-Isabel takes a final trip alone into the woods she loves. Caught in a snowstorm she goes into labour and must take refuge in Betsy Sweetapple’s cottage.

Betsy had been dismissed by Henry for immoral behaviour. She has just given birth to a stillborn daughter and now she watches Marie-Isabel die, giving birth to a strong, healthy son. Seeing a chance to avenge imagined wrongs, she swaps babies.

Julian, the blackthorn child, is eventually rescued from a hellish childhood, but can the estate ever be restored to its rightful owner?

Blackthorn Child is an epic family saga of love, loss and the power of one decision; how one moment of weakness has the power to change the course of generations.

Nora Fountain is a professional novelist and translator. Her short stories have been published in many magazines in the UK and abroad. She writes both contemporary and historical romance, and loves to paint.
